GUIDING OUR LEARNERS ON THEIR UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY
At Northstar Nurture School, education is not a static process, but a living, evolving journey. We recognise that every child comes to us with their own story, abilities and aspirations. Our curriculum is carefully crafted to honour this diversity, ensuring each learner is met with curiosity, confidence and unwavering support. We believe that learning is most meaningful when it moves in rhythm with the unique pace and needs of each child.
Curriculum Philosophy: A Journey Tailored to the Individual
At the heart of Northstar’s ethos is the conviction that learning should be a collaborative and transformative adventure. Our curriculum is built to meet each student exactly where they are in their development, and to travel with them as they grow in understanding and capability. Rather than a one-size-fits-all model, we provide three flexible learning pathways Discover, Navigate, and Journey. Each is designed to nurture specific stages of educational and personal growth.
Flexible Learning Pathways
Discover Pathway (Engagement model) This initial pathway is for children just beginning to engage with learning and the wider world. Here, our focus is on igniting curiosity and building the very foundations of learning. Through sensory experiences, hands-on exploration and playful interaction, our students begin to:
• Persist in activities, even when they are challenging
• Anticipate outcomes and build a sense of cause and effect
• Gain the confidence to take initiative and experiment
The Discover pathway is about opening the door to wonder—helping children feel safe, valued and ready to take their first steps on the learning journey.
Navigate Pathway (Semi-formal)
As children grow, their capacity for communication, focus and social interaction strengthens. The Navigate pathway is designed for these learners, emphasising:
• Language development and expressive communication
• Emotional awareness and understanding
• Cooperative play and teamwork
• Self-regulation strategies for managing feelings and behaviour
Learners are gently encouraged to chart their own direction, find their voice, and connect with peers and adults. This stage is about developing the tools to participate, express, and relate.
Journey Pathway (Formal)
In the Journey pathway, children are becoming increasingly independent. They engage in
a holistic blend of academic study, therapeutic input and personal development. The
focus here is on:
• Problem-solving and critical thinking
• Social interaction and understanding group dynamics
• Organisational skills and setting personal goals
• Exploration of leisure interests and hobbies
Journey is about stepping confidently into new opportunities, making choices and
building autonomy for life beyond the classroom.
